Where is the alter and what does it do?
The alter stands at the front of the sanctuary and can be seen from all parts of the church. The priest stands at the alter and faces the community during the celebration if mass.
Where is the sanctuary and what does it do?
The sanctuary is at the top at the church and is usually one or two steps higher than the rest of the church. It is where the orient says mass.
Where is the tabernacle and what does it do?
The tabernacle is at the back of the sanctuary or built into the wall of the sanctuary. The communion is kept here.
Where is the sanctuary lamp and what does it do?
It is near the tabernacle. It is to alert everyone to the presence of Jesus in the blessed sacrament.
Where is the celebrants chair and what does it do?
It is near the alter and the others sits here during mass.
Where is the lectern and what does it do?
The lectern is on the left side of the alter and it is where the priest delivers his homily or sermon. It is also where the word of god us read from.
