Features Of Skill Flashcards
Features of unskilled
No knowledge
100% focus of what they are doing not the surroundings
They are controlled by the skill
Motor programs (subroutines)
A skill broken into parts
Eg a serve in tennis grip, stance, toss etc..
Classification of skills
- Movement precision
- Type of movement
- Predictability of the environment
Movement precision
Gross and fine muscles movements
Gross- large muscle groups
Fine- small muscle groups
Type of movement
Discrete- distinct beginning and end
Continuous - no distinct beginning or end
Serial- several discrete movements put together in a sequence
Predictability of the environment
The effect of how much the environment has on the skill
Can be weather, teammates, opposition +crowd
Closed and open motor skills
Closed- a predictable and stable environment
No interruption of the skill
Internally paced
Performer controls the timing of the movement
Open- an unpredictable and unstable environment
Environment is constantly changing and interrupting the skill
Externally paced
Timing depends on factors external to the performer
Closed open continuum
Skills may not be totally open or closed but lie somewhere on the continuum
3 stages of learning
Cognitive
Associative
Autonomous
Feedback
Feedback is any information received about your performance it can be internal or external
It can be used before during and after performance
External feedback
5 senses information from your external environment that come through our senses
Internal feedback
Proprioceptor information from proprioceptors located in the muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments
Role of feedback
To motivate
To reinforce
To change behaviour
Kr knowledge of results
Information about the outcome
Can only come from an external source
Kp
Knowledge of performance
Feedback on the performance
Can come from both internal or external sources
