Shilshole Bay
Open bight where the ship canal is entered. Largest marina in Seattle area. Clay cliffs extend .5 miles at S end of Bay.
Lake Wa Ship Canal –
Project depth is 30’. Entrance marked by lighted range light and buoys. 5 bascule bridges, 2 fixed bridges.
Hiram M Chttenden Locks
- double lock and a fixed damn at the narrows of the entrance to Salmon Bay. Large Lock is 2 chambers with a salt barrier at east end, 30’ minute transit time. Small Lock is single chamber, 5-10’ transit time.
Salmon Bay -
many piles and floats, lots of small craft facilities.
Fishermans Terminal –
W of Ballard Bridge, many large commercial fishing boats, 700 berths.
Lake Union -
runs N/S, 1 mile long, .5 mile wide. Pacific Marine Center base of the National Ocean Service, a drydock company adjacent to PMC with floating drydocks, Lake Union Park at S end, Gas Works Park at N end.
Portage Bay -
many slips and finger piers. UW research ships.
Montlake Cut –
Leads from Portage bay to Union Bay then to Lake Washington.
Lake Washington –
Deep and protected water. 16 miles long. Many homes and private piers and landings along shore. Many marinas and small craft repair places.
State Route 520 Pontoon Bridge
Between Seattle and Evergreen Pt. Has fixed span at E and W ends, has a measured mile and half mile. Course 102° 30
I 90 Pontoon Bridge -
Between Seattle and Mercer Island. Has fixed spans at E and W ends. Fixed bridge on E side of Mercer Island. Measured mile on pontoon bridge, 091° 55’ / 271° 55’.
Kenmore -
Several marinas, barge loading facility and seaplane base. Dredged channel with lighted buoys leads across flats to turning basin.
