Feasibility Flashcards
what does the feasibility depend on?
- time period and finances
- aspects of study design
- estimates (prevalence rates, refusals etc.)
what aspects of study design do you need to think of?
- burden on participants
- sample size
- in- and exclusion criteria
- setting
- inclusion process
what can you do about informed consent? (professionals need to ask for informed consent)
- make sure they don’t forget the study: sent cakes, cards, newsletters etc
- check if possible, have meetings
- e.g. have a dedicated (paid) person within the organization who checks
what can we do about names/ address needs to be send to us?
- try to make the procedure as easy as possible (e.g. also dedicated person)
what do we do about we need the informed consent and baseline questionnaire back from the patient?
- send reminders, call (how long do you do that?)
what do we do about we need to have a telephone interview with the patient?
- e.g., be available whenever patients wants (evening etc.)
what do we do about patient needed to be on waitlist, not start with regular treatment?
- check, discuss with staff
what do you need to estimate?
- number of admissions (e.g. for phobia)
- how many people really sent through to researchers?
- how many fulfill exclusion criteria?
- how many agree to participate?
what do you need to estimate? –> When do you know this then decide…
- how many centers do you need to include 200 people?
2. how much time do you allow to include patients?
Lasagna’s law lesson
make conservative estimates about how many people you will be able to include how fast!
feasibility from the perspective of the professionals who participate
- why would they do extra work for us?
- presume they don’t
- try to do as much work as possible yourself (research staff)
