Q

What FC modes are available for the FCRs and what is the principle use for each? (6)

A

Frequency Agile (FA: surface tracks), Pulse Doppler (PD: air tracks), Moving Target Indicator (MTI: where there inability to use other modes and tgt is manoeuvring)

11
Q

. Define HANG FIRE and what is the time allotted to it with 57mm?

A

A intentional delay in firing of ammo between the application of initiating energy and the actual firing of the round. 2 minutes

12
Q

What does the option “Use FA when 0 Doppler” cause to occur and why do we prefer this option to be selected? (1)

A

The FCR will automatically switch to FA when it loses tracking in PD, if it is not selected the FCR will default to MTI

14
Q

Why is it important for the FCR to have the correct target category and RCS settings?

A

The doctrine employed by CMS will optimize the FCR to search for a target of the correct size and scale to increase target acquisition and retention

16
Q

What is the difference between Power Alert, Green Alert, and Red Alert?

A

Power alert the GWS is powered down and secured, Green Alert servos and hydraulics are activated but no higher functions, Red Alert the GWS is fully activated and ready for employment

17
Q

How is a Deliberate Pre-Action Calibration conducted by the FCO with regard to what is done to the GWS with each salvo?

A

On first, second, and third salvos the FCO records the recommended corrections in PAC log and selects USE RECOMMENDED VALUES from the HPI, records Mean Vø and resets, after the third salvo the FCO selects the middle value of the three azimuth and elevation corrections and inputs in the ACTUAL column and the Mean Vø, fourth salvo no correction is applied unless greater than 2 mils

18
Q

What is the difference between Primary Locked On, Secondary Locked On, and Secondary Fictitious misfire procedure?

A

PLO = AWWD executes firing without breaking target lock (surface only)

SLO = FCO executes firing without breaking target lock (surface only

SF = FCO inputs new bearing, range, and elevation of a fictitious target and assigns the gun to the target to prevent the gun from slewing in an unsafe direction (mandatory for air)

19
Q

What is the standard range and height of a 57mm air PAC?

A

3000x, 1000

20
Q

. From a movement perspective, what is the difference between the FCR being in Standby or in Lock?

A

Standby the FCR will float and be available for immediate employment, Lock will put the FCR on a pre-determined fixed azimuth and bearing

21
Q

After a second attempt misfire what two features must be observed and acted upon by the FCO?

A

They must observe the 2 minute countdown expire at 0 and then select the UNLOAD option

22
Q

In the event of an error code inhibiting the ability to fire (57mm MK III), the FCS will immediately check what and where

A

Gun Status page, Misfire and Check Load indicators checked

23
Q

What is the difference between Hot and Cold gun and what are the amounts and times associated with a hot gun for 57mm and CIWS? (4)

A

Hot gun indicates that the barrel has reached a temperature where a round left in the breach may detonate/fire based on residual heat, cold gun this temperature is absent. 57mm = 40rds/1hr or 60rds/4hrs CIWS = 300rds/5min

24
Q

What is the purpose of the Cook Off window and what is the time associated with it?

A

Cook off indicates a hot gun situation where 10 minutes after the first attempt to fire is deemed a safe period to attempt to extract a round before it is too hazardous and must be left for the breach to cool before further maintenance can be conducted

25
Q

What should occur when CHECK LOAD is indicated on the Gun Status page?

A

Techs should be sent to the mount to investigate the loading issue prior to attempting to refire

26
Q

What are the different CIWS surface tracking modes and how are they different?

A

RF Range = radar ranging, Passive Range = tgt position relative to horizon, Manual Range = input by operator based on sighting information, FC Bypass = operator point and shoot

27
Q

How must a No Engage sector be input into the CIWS CP and what are the two caveats with regard to a No Engage Sectors use?

A

Input using centre bearing and width of arc overall, NES will not be recognized in surface mode; however, when in AAW Manual or AAW Auto conducting a surface engagement they will be recognized for a pending air engagement

28
Q

How must a CIWS PAC be conducted and what are the two set values that must be employed?

A

CIWS PACs must be conducted from the LCP, elevation 17°, length 2sec burst

29
Q

During an air engagement with CIWS on a towed target what mode shall be employed and when/how will CIWS be made ready?

A

A/C calls “On Top”, CIWS AAW Manual, AWWD orders make CIWS ready, CIWS enabled at the Veto panel by the ORO and RCO/LCO deselects Hold Fire

30
Q

What types of ammunition are available for the 57mm MK III GWS and what is the intended purpose of each?

A

BLP – Practice / HCER – Surface / PFHE – AA / 3P – multi-modal / NFVT – AA Practice / PRAP – AA Radar tracking practice
