FC Flashcards
Will you be off or from?
From.
From what and to what?
From the degree of an Entered Apprentice to that of a Fellow Craft.
Are you a Fellow Craft?
I am; try me.
How will you be tried?
By the square.
Why by the square?
Because it is an emblem of morality and one of the working tools of my profession.
What is a square?
An angle of ninety degrees or the fourth part of a circle.
What made you a Fellow Craft?
My obligation.
Where were you made a Fellow Craft?
In a just and regularly constituted Lodge of Fellow Crafts.
How were you prepared?
By being divested of all metallic substance, neither naked nor clad, barefoot nor shod, hoodwinked, with a cable tow twice around my naked right arm, in which condition I was conducted to the door of a Lodge by a brother.
Why had you the cable tow twice around your naked right arm?
To signify that as a Fellow Craft I was about to become under a double tie to the Fraternity.
How gained you admission?
By three distinct knocks.
To what do they allude?
To the three precious jewels of a Fellow Craft, which are the attentive ear, the instructive tongue, and the faithful breast.
What was said to you from within?
Who comes here?
Your answer?
I, Michael Graziano, who has been regularly initiated an Entered Apprentice, served a proper time as such, and now seeks more light in Masonry by being passed to the Degree of a Fellow Craft.
What were you then asked?
If it was of my own free will and accord that I made this request; if I was worthy and well-qualified, duly and truly prepared; if I had made suitable proficiency in the preceding degree to entitle me to this; all of which being answered in the affirmative, I was asked by what further right or benefit I expected to gain admission.
Your answer?
By the benefit of the pass.
Did you give the pass?
I did not; my conductor gave it for me.
What followed?
I was directed to wait with patience until the Worshipful Master in the East could be informed of my requested and his answer returned.
What answer did he return?
Let him enter this Worshipful Lodge in the name of God and be received in due and ancient form.
How were you received?
Upon the angle of a square presented to my naked right breast, which was to teach me that the square of virtue should be the rule and guide of my conduct in my future transactions with all mankind, but more especially with my brethren in Masonry.
How were you then disposed of?
I was conducted twice regularly about the Lodge, to the Junior Warden in the South, to the Senior Warden in the West, thence to the Worshipful Master in the East, at each of which stations the same questions were asked and like answers returned as at the door.
How did the Worshipful Master in the East then dispose of you?
He ordered me to be reconducted to the Senior Warden in the West, who taught me how to approach the East, advancing by two up right regular steps, my feet forming the angle of an oblong Square, my body erect at the Altar, before the Worshipful Master in the East.
What did the Worshipful Master then make of you?
A Fellow Craft, in due form.
What was that due form?
Kneeling on my naked right knee, my left forming a square, my right hand resting upon the Holy Bible, square, and compasses, my left arm elevated, forming a square, in which due form I took the obligation of a Fellow Craft, which is as follows:
Obligation I
I, Michael Graziano, of my own free will and accord, in the presence of Almighty God and this Worshipful Lodge, erected to Him and dedicated to the Holy Saints John, do hereby and hereon, solemnly and sincerely promise and swear, that I will always hele, ever conceal, and never reveal, any of the secret arts, parts, or points of the hidden mysteries of the Fellow Craft Degree, to any person or persons whomsoever, except it be to a true and lawful Brother Fellow Craft, or within the body of a just and regularly constituted Lodge of such, and not unto him or them until, by strict trial, due examination, or lawful information, I shall found him or them as a lawfully entitled to the same as I am myself.
Obligation II
I furthermore promise and swear that I will stand to and abide by all the laws, rules, and regulations of the Fellow Craft Degree, so far as the same shall come to my knowledge.
Obligation III
Further, that I will answer and obey all due signs and summonses, sent to me from a Lodge of Fellow Crafts, or given me by a brother of this degree, if within the length of my cable tow.
Obligation IV
Further, that I will aid and assist all poor distressed Brother Fellow Crafts, they making application to me as such, and I finding them worthy, so far as their necessities may require, and my ability permit, without material injury to myself.
