USING THE CARRIAGE KEY AT THE AFFECTED DOOR, INSERT THE KEY INTO THE SLOT ABOVE THE DOOR AND MAKE A SHARP 90 DEGREE TURN. YOU SHOULD HEAR AN ESCAPE OF AIR, A LOCKING BAR APPEAR IN THE SLOT RECESS AND A “DOOR OUT OF USE” ILLUMINATED BY THE DOORS.
IF THE DOOR BEING ISOLATED IS AT THE END OF THE CARRIAGE OR THEIR ARE TWO SETS ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE SAME CARRIAGE ISOLATED, PASSENGERS SHOULD BE MOVED TO ANOTHER CARRIAGE AND THAT CARRIAGE LOCKED “OUT OF USE TO PASSENGERS”

A

ISOLATE BCIC & PBBC
IN REAR CAB ISOLATE EBS AND PASSCOM (SWITCHES 1 & 5)

Q

DURING NORMAL RUNNING YOU EXPERIENCE A PARTIAL LOSS OF POWER. WHAT COULD BE THE POSSIBLE REASON

A

FAULTY TURBO
HIGH COOLANT TEMPERATURE-CAUSES ENGINE TO IDLE
HIGH OIL TEMPERATURE-CAUSES ENGINE TO IDLE
ENGINE SHUTS DOWN

17
Q

IF THE PA COMPLETELY FAILS IN PASSENGER SERVICE ON A DOO TRAIN WILL THE TRAIN BE ABLE TO STAY IN SERVICE

A

NO

THE DRIVER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE PASSENGERS OR GIVE EMERGENCY INSTRUCTIONS

18
Q

IF THE ENGINE IS ISOLATED OR FAILS IN SERVICE WHAT MCB IF TRIPPED IN AN ADJACENT VEHICLE CAN POTENTIALLY AFFECT TRAIN RUNNING

A

REMOTE SUPPLY MCB

19
Q

IF A GENERATOR FAULT LIGHT IS FLASHING RED AND TRANSMISSION LIGHT IS RED WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM AND HOW WOULD YOU OVER COME IT

A

THE SLIDING DOG MECHANISM MAY NOT OF FULLY ENGAGED IN THE TRANSMISSION
MOVE THE DIRECTION SELECTOR FROM FORWARD TO REVERSE SEVERAL TIMES TO TRY AND FREE IT UP

20
Q

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE COMPRESSOR SPEED UP BUTTON

A

IT ALLOWS A FASTER BUILD UP OF AIR BY REVVING THE ENGINE AND THEREFORE MAKING THE COMPRESSOR WORK HARDER

21
Q

LIST WHICH MCBs IF TRIPPED CAN AFFECT PASSENGER DOORS AND IN WHAT WAY

A

DOOR SUPPLY MCB - AFFECTS SALOON BUTTONS FOR PASSENGER USE

DOOR CONTROL MCB - AFFECTS PASSENGER DOOR RELEASE FROM THE CAB

22
Q

IF YOU HAVE TO ISOLATE AWS DUE TO A FAULT HOW WOULD YOU ACHIEVE THIS AND WHAT RULEBOOK INSTRUCTIONS APPLY TO CONTINUING ON YOUR JOURNEY

A

ISOLATE BY USING THE TRACTION KEY IN THE SAFETY SYSTEMS ISOLATION PANEL- UPPER LEFT CAB WALL
LINESPEED - COMPETENT PERSON REQUIRED
40 MPH - NO COMPETENT PERSON OR IN FOG/FALLING SNOW

23
Q

ON SWITCHING A DESK ON YOU NOTICE THE TPWS FAULT LIGHT ON, WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSE AND HOW WOULD YOU RECTIFY IT

A

TRAIN COULD BE SITTING OVER TPWS GRID
WAIT FOR SIGNAL TO CLEAR-TRIP TPWS MCB AND RESET OR
GET PERMISSION TO PULL FORWARD OFF THE GRID AND RESET TPWS MCB

24
Q

IF IN PASSENGER SERVICE YOU HAVE TO ISOLATE THE TRACTION INTERLOCK SWITCH (TIS) WHAT APPROPRIATE PRECAUTIONS MUST YOU TAKE EACH TIME THE DOORS ARE RELEASED OR OPENED

A

A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE DOORS TO ENSURE THEY ARE PROPERLY CLOSED

25
Q

IF YOU HAVE TO ISOLATE THE DRIVER SAFETY DEVICE (DSD) OR DRIVER VIGILANCE DEVICE (DVD) WHAT ARE THE RULEBOOK REQUIREMENTS TO CONTINUE IN SERVICE

A

MAX 60 MPH

UNLESS ACCOMPANIED BY A COMPETENT PERSON THEN LINESPEED

26
Q

IF YOU DISCOVER THE OTDR TO BE DEFECTIVE IN THE CAB FROM WHICH YOU ARE DRIVING WILL THE TRAIN BE ALLOWED TO STAY IN SERVICE

A

YES

PROVIDING THE OTDR IS FULLY WORKING IN THE OTHER DRIVING CAB

27
Q

WHILST IN SERVICE ON THE MAIN LINE THE WSP FAULT LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND THE SPEEDO STOPS WORKING. WHAT HAS HAPPENED AND WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU BRING YOUR TRAIN TO A STAND AND PLACE THE MASTER CONTROLLER TO NEUTRAL

A

THE WSP MCB HAS TRIPPED
IF YOU PLACE THE MASTER SWITCH TO NEUTRAL THERE WILL BE AN EMERGENCY BRAKE APPLICATION WHICH CAN NOT BE RELEASED WITHOUT THE AID OF A FITTER

28
Q

IN PASSENGER SERVICE YOUR TCA FAULT LIGHT ILLUMINATES. THE PROBLEM IS ON THE LEAD VEHICLE OF A 3 CAR UNIT. WILL YOU BE ABLE TO CONTINUE IN PASSENGER SERVICE

A

YES

PROVIDING AUTHORITY CAN BE GIVEN FROM CONTROL - OTHERWISE NO

29
Q

LIST 10 ITEMS OF EQUIPMENT ON A TURBO THAT IF FAULTY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPORTED TO THE CONTROLLING SIGNALLER IMMEDIATELY

A
AWS
TPWS
DSD
DVD
TIS
TCA - (IF TRAIN CANNOT CONTINUE NORMALLY)
WSP (IF YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN NOT STOP TRAIN)
DRAGGING BRAKES
FIRE DETECTION SYSTEM
HEADLIGHTS / TAIL LIGHTS

SPEEDOMETER
30
Q

IF BOTH CONNECTING INTERNAL VESTIBULE SLIDING DOORS ARE ISOLATED ON A 2 CAR UNIT (STUCK OPEN) WILL THE TRAIN BE ALLOWED TO STAY IN SERVICE

A

NO

BECAUSE THE DOORS ALSO ACT AS A FIRE PROTECTION BARRIER BETWEEN THE CARRIAGES
