In which scenarios are FAST scans good?
A
- Ocular emergencies
○ Information about integrity of eye - Concern re-haemorrhage in thorax and abdomen secondary to trauma
- Emergency abdomen cases
- Pleural effusions/pleuropneumonia
Heart failure

Why are FAST scans so good for ECC?
A
- Can be done un-sedated
- Readily available
- Can sit in sternal recumbency
○ Important if they can’t breathe - Quick results
- Can use to tap fluid, FNAs, biopsies
- Non-invasive
- Can occur at the same time as other treatments
○ Fluids
○ IV treatments - No radiation risk
