  • Concern re-haemorrhage in thorax and abdomen secondary to trauma

Why are FAST scans so good for ECC?

A
  • Can be done un-sedated
  • Readily available
  • Can sit in sternal recumbency
    ○ Important if they can’t breathe
  • Quick results
  • Can use to tap fluid, FNAs, biopsies
  • Non-invasive
  • Can occur at the same time as other treatments
    ○ Fluids
    ○ IV treatments
  • No radiation risk
