• Anything collected by me personally or commissioned to be collected on my behalf
• primary research is going directly to the source, rather than relying on pre-existing materials.

-Analyzing data that already exists and has been published by others. E.g. government statistics, reports, articles etc.
- Rather than generating new data through primary research- surveys or experiments
- it’s using information that someone else already accumulated to inform my own research

• providing a brief overview of a topic without analysis or interpretations
• essentially, it’s a collection of pre existing published research- used to gain a basic understanding of a subject area. (usually from dictionaries or encyclopedias)
