what is the aeronautical experience for IFR rating?
- 50 hours of XC as PIC
- 40 hours of simulated/actual instrument
- of the 40 hours, 15 with a CFII, a 250 NM XC including… , 3 hours within 2 calendar months of test
- max of 10 hours training on the AFD
when is an IFR rating required?
- acting PIC under IFR rules/flight plan
- in class A airspace
- special VFR at night
when is a IFR flight plan required?
in conditions below VFR minimums in controlled airspace
in class A airspace
to carry passengers as PIC under IFR
- flight review or substitute for a flight review
- 3 takeoffs and landings (night = full stop) in the past 90 days
- 6 approaches in past 6 months
- holding, intercepting, and tracking courses
how to become IFR current if not already
- 6 approaches in simulated conditions (in simulator or with safety pilot in VMC)
- must record location and type of approach, name of safety pilot
- after 12 months… instrument proficiency check (CFII or DPE)
