Farm 1 Flashcards
What is the drug choice for treatment of Eimeria?
Toltrazuril or diclazuril
What does CODD stand for?
Contagious Ovine Digital Dermatitis
What bacterial infection is shed in urine of infected animals, zoonotic and sudden milk drop?
Leptospira hardjo
Ping in severly ill animal on caudo-dorsal abdomen right side. What is top d/d?
Caecal torsion - often palpable on rectal exam
Ping often located more cranial on dorsal abdomen on RHS, often presented as an acute case. What is top d/d?
Right displaced abomasum
Profuse-dark coloured diarrhoea, high temp, normal rumen turnover, increased intestinal sounds
Salmonellosis
Rothera’s reagent to a milk sample turns purple
Positive result for primary ketosis
Ping” can be elicited by percussion auscultation over the ventral parts of the caudal 3 ribs on the left hand side. What is top d/d?
LDA
A lamb which had a elastrator band placed 2 weeks prior to presentation, is showing signs of spasticity with an opisthotonus and muscular spasms.
Tetanus
A very rare disease most commonly seen in individual cattle less than 6 months old causing a bilateral stiff and stilted hind limb gait.
Tetanus
Tetanus and botulism
Tetanus = spastic paralysis (rigid and extended). Botulism = flaccid paralysis and muscle tremors
Generalised muscle weakness in cattle and sheep of all ages
Botulism
Difference between caecal torsion and caecal dilation of clinical exam
Torsion = acute presentation
Dilation = ping and less severe
Swayback: Clinical signs, cause and species/age
Congential (dead or weak lambs, spastic paralysis), progressive (stiff, staggering gati 3-6wo), cerebral oedema (same as progressive byt develops quickly and death in 1-2days)
Caused by copper deficiency of ewes/does in mid-pregnancy
Sheep and goats - affects lambs of affected mothers but not mothers themselves
Presentation and cause of blackleg
Lambs and claves
Severe lameness, unilateral upper limb muscle welling, death (12-36hrs after CS)
Clostridium chauvoei
