When should I use FAR Part 8?

Answer 1

FAR Part 8 shall be used if there is a mandatory source. If there is a mandatory source, then you shall use FAR Part 8, unless there is a waiver process, exemption, or exception to the mandatory source.

What are the priorities for use of mandatory Government sources?

Answer 2

(i) Inventories of the requiring agency.

(ii) Excess from other agencies

(iii) Federal Prison Industries, Inc.

(iv) Supplies which are on the Procurement List maintained by the Committee for Purchase From People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled

(v) Wholesale supply sources, such as stock programs of the General Services Administration (GSA), the Defense Logistics Agency, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and military inventory control points.
