It’s a psychological therapy carried out with family members in order to improve communication and reduce stress
What are the 3 aims of family therapy?
Improve positive communication and decrease negative communication
Increase tolerance levels and decrease criticism
Decrease feelings of guilt and responsibility
How long does family therapy take?
9-12 months
How is family therapy delivered?
Therapists meet regularly and the family are encouraged to speak openly. There are boundaries on what is acceptable prior to this.

Reviewed evidence that family therapy reduced relapse rates and symptoms which improves family relationships
What did Leff et al research into family therapy?
Compared family therapy against routine care. Routine care had a 50% relapse rate and family therapy had a 8% relapse rate after 9 months. FT is less effective after 2 years.
