Q

How does the speaker in walking away and the author link?

A

Cecil Day-Lewis had a broken relationship with his father, the man dying before Cecil could really apologise for the distance he’d made between them. The authors own experiences with his father caused him to try and be as close to his own children as possible, which relates to the speakers reluctance to let go of his child despite distance being a normal part of life

Q

How does family love link to context in walking away and mother, any distance? Included context relating to dates of authors

A

The closeness between father and son in ‘walking away’ is repräsentative of how relationship between parents and their children became closer through time. The mothers reluctance to let go of her child shows how parents grew more protective of their children in modern day society. Both Simon Armitage and Cecil Day Lewis were poets born in the 20th Century, so their poetry is about family love and relationships
