  • Can only be between one man and one woman (monogamy) - this is how God established marriage whn he created humans
  • In the sacrament God joins the couple in a bond that humans have no right to break - marriage is for life
  • marriage is not for everyone - God calls some people to a celibate life e.g priests, monks, or nuns

  • Many Churches are becoming more family friendly, which help unite the family - often children have their own Liturgy of The Word
  • Parishes also help families through rites of passage - priests give advice before baptism and run classes before Holy Communion
