argues it assumes husband and wife roles are fixed by biology where it oppresses women

recognise there has been an increase in family diversity recently, believing parson’s nuclear family now has a division of labour (neo conventional family) which is a duel earner family

diversity is central importance of understanding family life, believing we have moved away from traditional family as a dominant type

argues the higher rate of lone parents among black people is not result of disorganisation but reflects independence for women
what is the post modern phase?
since the late 20th century, society has moved on from the modernism phase
gives diversity and fragmentation as people can create own life styles and identities
rapid social changes (technology etc)

the individuals have a choice of family

that traditional social structures, such as class and gender, have lost much influence as there are no longer fixed rules as we are more freed/’disembedded’
what does the personal life perspective mean?
individualism thesis exaggerates how much choice people have
what is the connectedness thesis?
choices made within a web of connectedness
