FAMILY
A group of 2 or more persons associated by birth, cohabitation, marriage or adoption
HOUSEHOLD
All the people living together in a domestic dwelling

Partners living together without being married

A new family formed when 2 adults remarry or cohabit or live together with children from a previous relationship

The traditional image of a nuclear family presented through the media involving clearly defined male and female roles
STATUS
The honour or prestige attached to a person’s position in society
CONJUGAL BOND
The attachment that exists between marriage partners
STEREOTYPICAL
Oversimplified and sometimes exaggerated view
NEO-CONVENTIONAL FAMILIES
The new nuclear family headed by a married or co-habiting couple who both work
MARRIAGE
A legally recognised union between a woman and a man by religious or civil ceremony
MONOGAMY
The practise of only being married to one person at a time
SPOUSE
A marriage partner – husband or wife
