What is the definition of a fallacy?
A false or mistaken idea.
What is the Post Hoc fallacy?
Mistaking sequence for cause; just because one event happens before another doesn’t mean the first event caused the second.
What does Hasty Generalization refer to?
Claims based on insufficient evidence and data; often involves small numbers in polls.
What is the False Analogy fallacy?
Comparing apples to oranges; just because it works in one case doesn’t mean it will work in another.
What is Either or Reasoning?
An argument that is black or white and ignores the gray area.
What does Ad Hominem mean?
Attacking the speaker instead of addressing the issue.
What is the Appeal to False Authority fallacy?
Offering support based on the fact that a famous person already supports it.
What does Bandwagon Appeals refer to?
The idea that something is correct because everyone is doing it or agrees.
What is a Non Sequitur?
A claim where there’s no evidence to support the claim or major premise.
What is Circular Reasoning?
The claim and the reasoning are the same; also known as begging the question.
What is a Red Herring?
Creating another problem or distraction instead of addressing the current issue.
What does Slippery Slope imply?
If something is not stopped, the consequences will continue to snowball and get worse.
