What is simvastatin used for?
Hyperlipidemia — high cholesterol/lipids
Onset of action of Simvastatin?
Onset is about 3 days, peak effect is about 2-4 weeks
Administration advice for Simvastatin
Take in the evening to enhance efficacy
Take with or without food
Side effects of Simvastatin
Muscle cramps (rare but can be serious), stomach pain, constipation, & headache
Benefits of Simvastatin
Lowers cholesterol levels
What is lisinopril used for?
Hypertension, acute MI, And heart failure
Onset of action of lisinopril
1 hour with peak effect in approximately 6-7 hours
Side effects of lisinopril
Dizziness, lightheadedness, & dry/hacking cough
Administration advice of lisinopril
Take with or without food
Benefits of lisinopril
Lowers BP
What is metoprolol used for?
hypertension, Angina pectoris (chest pain), myocardial infarction, heart failure (reduce the risk of a heart related episode)
Onset of action of metoprolol
1-2 hours
Administration advice for metoprolol
Short-acting: take with food
Long-acting: take without regard to food. Swallow whole or split in half. Do not crush or chew
Benefits of metoprolol
Lowers BP
Side effects of metoprolol
Dizziness, bradycardia, tiredness, lightheadedness, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea
