What is fainting?
Temporary reduction in blood supply
What are causes of fainting?
Injury
Illness
Fatigue
Long time in hot, stuffy environment
Long time standing still
Dehydration
What are symptoms of fainting?
Nausea
Blurred vision
Black spots in eyes
What are signs of fainting?
Pale face
Cold clammy skin
Sweat on face, neck & hands
Brief unconsciousness
Shallow breathing
Weak pulse
What are treatments before fainting?
Reassure patient
Breath deep & slow
Lay patient down
Raise legs
Loosen tight clothing
Ask bystanders to leave
Sip water
What are treatments during fainting?
Lay patient down
Raise legs
Check airway & breathing
If breathing normal but are slow to come around, put in recovery position & call 999
