- Sphincter weakness (after childbirth / surgery)
- Anal / rectal pathology (fistula / Crohn’s)
- Neuro (cauda equina)
- Dementia
- Diarrhoea
- Constipation (esp in elderly / DM / hypothyroid)
- Meds (abx / muscle relaxants / PPIs / Metformin)

A
- Check sphincter function
- Rule out impaction
- Check perianal sensation (rule out neuro)

What are the Mx options for Faecal incontinence caused by Sphincter issues? (2 things)
A
- Perianal exercises (if sphincter weakness)
- Surgery (for anal sphincter repair)

- Bowel training (to develop predictable pattern)
