factors effecting ROM Flashcards
what are the 3 anatomical factors that effect ROM
muscle bulk
scar tissue
origin/insertion- biarticulate
what are the 3 physiological factors that effect ROM
level of hydration
age
gender
elasticity of ligament/tendon
what are the environmental factors that effect ROM
time of day
temperature
why does time of day effect ROM
as between 2:30- 4pm is said to be the best time of day where ROM is at its best
how does temperature effect ROM
as extreme cold causes muscles to tense where as in heat muscles are more pliable and flexible therefore increases ROM
how does age effect ROM
as you get older muscles become less flexible and have decreases extensibility
how does gender effect ROM
females tend to be more flexible that men
how does hydration effect ROM
water is needed to function so when there is a lack of water muscles, tendon/ligaments won’t function fully
how does elasticity effect ROM
good elasticity means that tendon/ligaments able to stretch further giving better ROM.
how does muscle bulk effect ROM
when there is high muscle bulk this decreases mobility therefore decreasing ROM
how does scar tissue effect ROM
scar tissue is made up of collagen fibres which aren’t stretchable
