Industrial revolution; Creation of Unions, Labour laws, Laws for safety in factories, public health, housing, and sanitation.
Examples of change in trends; demographic change.
Why where labour laws created and what is the factor of change?
Labour laws were created due to the industrial revolution and the increase in urbanization, enabling better work conditions; demographic change.
War and women at the workplaces
after the war there have been drastic changes, women began to work and earned money with that never laws were brought to life to save women’s place in their jobs. maternity leave, paternity leave (2005), equal pay laws, and Anti-discrimination laws. Men and women are being treated equally; examples of Demographic change.
What happened with the baby booms?
Mandatory Retirement laws were presented, as additions to pension plans, additions to healthcare costs, and special housing needs.
What is the change called for computers, Internet, cellphone and Automobiles?
Technological Change.
What were issues caused by the developments in Computers and the internet that led to changes in laws?
More issues such as Child Pornography, Id theft, Credit card fraud, Copyrights and defamation of characters.
What were issues caused by the developments in cell phones that led to changes in laws?
Competition laws (Samsung and iPhone), Texting and talking while driving, public usage of cell phones, camera privacy and policies.
What were issues caused by the developments in Automobiles that led to changes in laws?
Licensing, safety standards (seat belts etc.), emissions testing, jurisdiction over roadway.
What did the change in Attitudes lead to?
It leads to Changes in Values; Abortion, religion, Women, Smoking, Drinking, Animal rights, Homosexuality, poverty and people with disabilities, and views on aboriginal people.
3 state of National emergencies examples?
- The war measures act; Government controls/restrict the citizen’s liberties/ rights.
- The Income tax act; we pay tax for the government on the money we earn (this is not removed to this day)
- Anti-terrorism act; (9/11)
(Usually, these are temporary laws put into action in response to emergencies however some are not removed to this day.)
