How does long term illnesses affect development?
The medication may reduce your energy levels so reducing the capacity to exercise and develop muscles and coordination. Also absence from setting may reduce opportunities and access to resources that enhance physical development
How do disabilities affect development?
We know that all areas of development are codependent on the others. Meaning if one area is affected by a disability this could lead to disadvantages on other areas.
E.g a physical disability may lead a child to fall behind in other areas of development.
How do genetic disorders affect development?
Physical development can be linked to faulty genes.
Some genetic disorders can cause disability e.g. Down syndrome and cystic fibrosis.

Infection
Birth accidents
Lifestyle - drugs , alcohol and smoking.
Illness, accidents and injuries.
Injuries may mean absence initially and follow up appointments.
Repeated episodes of short term illness will mean repeated absence.
How hearing loss affects development?
Physical- painful and bad balance and coordination.
Intellectual- miss instructions so can’t do tasks or activities.
Social- won’t be able to talk to or hear other children.
Emotional- upset as the can’t join in
Language- won’t be able to pick up sounds or words so may learn to speak later which will mean it is harder for them to pronounce words.

Socioeconomic Poverty Diet Housing Stress Education ( child and parents) Play and leisure opportunities

Emotional factors?
Divorce/separation Depression- if parents are emotionally unavailable. Addiction- parents Sibling rivalry Separation and transitions Bullying Abuse
