What is motivation?
The direction and intensity of one’s efforts.
What is amotivation?
A complete lack of motivation.
What is extrinsic motivation?
Being motivated by external factors such as rewards or punishments.
What is intrinsic motivation?
Being motivated by the inherent intrest or enjoyment of participating.
What is self-efficacy?
The strength of one’s belief in one’s own ability to complete tasks and reach goals.
What is arousal?
A heightened sense of physical and mental alertness or activation.
What is anxiety?
A subjective feeling of apprehension that is accompanied by a heightened state of arousal.
What is attention?
Your awareness of the surrounding environment and acknowledgement of cognitive processes.
What is concentration?
The ability to deliberately focus your attention to the task ahead and block out distractors.
What is flow?
A state of mind in which the performer feels as though they are “in the zone”.
What is choking?
Failing to successfully perform a skill that would normally be simple, under percieved pressure durin competition.
What is self-confidence?
A feeling of trust in one’s abilities, qualities and judgement.
What is self-belief?
Confidence in one’s self and one’s abilities.
What are internal distractors?
Thoughts or feelings that divert your attention from the tasl at hand such as emotions or pain.
What are external distractors?
Factors beyond your control that divert your attention away from the present task such as background noise or weather.
What is pressure?
A feeling of great stress and not being in control.
What are some low arousal sports?
Golf, archery, snooker, soccer goalie
What are some moderate arousal sports?
Tennis, soccer, basketball
What are some high arousal sports?
Sprinting, boxing, rugby
