Factorising and solving Flashcards
1
Q
What is the difference of two squares?
A
(a+b)(a-b)
a^2-b^2
2
Q
How do you factorise into single brackets?
A
Find the common letters/multiples and put them outside the brackets, then write the remaiining terms in the brackets
3
Q
How do you factorise into double brackets when the coefficient of x=1?
A
There should be three terms. x^2 ?x and ? and ? (and the question marks can be different numbers). The term with the x needs to be able to be added to by the terms, and the number on its own needs to be multiplied to by. Find a pair of numbers that fit this criteria and put in a double bracket with x at the start of each.
