Factorial ANOVA Flashcards
Factorial Design
At least two independent variable
Main effects and interactions
Benefits of Factorial Design
Generalizability
Interaction
Economical
Factorial Design: Generalizability
Understand how a relationship operates across multiple groups
Factorial Design: Interaction
Can ask whether the effect of levels of a factor are independent of levels of a second factor
Factorial Design: Economical
Examine the effect of two or more variables in 1 experiment rather than having to conduct 2+ experiments
Factorial Terminology
Labeled according to the number of levels of the factor
Two-way factorial: two independent variables
Any combination of A and B is called a cell
Simple Effect
Comparing one factor at specific levels of the second factor (e.g. condition for old or condition for young)
Main Effect
Examining the effect of one factor while ignoring/averaging the second factor
Interaction
Does the effect of one of the independent variables change with different levels of the second independent variable
