Who had regular access to the king?
the gentleman of the bedchamber as they were freely passed into the inner world of private lodgings and accompanied the king on his numerous trips out of London and so their concerns were bound to be heard out by the king even though it wasn’t a formal governmental position.

Support given by a patron.
What was patronage in James’ government?
Important part of political system-could lead to an increase in factions.

What is the ordinary revenue for the crown?
The annual income not dependent on parliamentary grants.
What’s the tea with crown lands?
Diminished in importance as successive lord treasurers saw the sale of land as being the quickest, easiest way to increase money for the crown.
What is tonnage and poundage?
Taxes on imports and exports usually granted to life by the monarchs first parliament.
What’s the tea with customs revenue?
By 1621 customs revenues brought in 3x as much revenue from crown lands.
What’s the tea with wardship?
Feudal tenures and wardship had lost importance but not financial usefulness.
What is a monopoly?
The monarchs right to grant exclusive access rights to make and sell goods of a particular kind-Lizzy had been forced to abolish this in 1601 yet had to be brought back due to James’ spending.
How bad was James’ spending?
he’s doubled expenditure on the royal household between 1603 and 1610. This extravagance meant he could not live on his ordinary income alone.
