A
- Use communication temptations, e.g. only blow bubbles until the child vocalises or says a word/sentence
- Observe and comment, e,g, when playing, comment on what the child is doing “you are feeding teddy, teddy is eating an apple”

A
- Model appropriate social phrases, e.g. when greeting others, waving and saying “hello”.
- Reinforce social skills in class by using symbols

- Read what’s been said from the child so that they have good language models
- Don’t interrupt or finish their sentence for them

Expressive Language

- Emphasise keywords or concepts when speaking, e.g. “the teddy is UNDER the chair”
- Visual support strategies, e.g. personal word glossary of new words with diagrams and pictures

Receptive Language
A
- Simplifying language be using simpler vocabulary, e.g. saying “mix together” instead of combine, which is more abstract
- Be aware of complex questions, e..g “how”, “when” and “why” questions are Blank’s level 3 or 4 and require inferencing skills, may be challenging to answer

Attention & Listening
A
- Adapt the environment, e.g. minimise background noise by closing doors and windows
- Use the child’s name to gain their attention, e.g. before giving an instruction for a task
