lower jaw
The lower jaw (mandible) supports the bottom row of teeth and gives shape to the lower face and chin. This is the bone that moves as the mouth opens and closes. The upper jaw (maxilla) holds the upper teeth, shapes the middle of the face, and supports the nose.
vermillion border
The vermilion border (sometimes spelled vermillion border), also called margin or zone, is the normally sharp demarcation between the lip and the adjacent normal skin. It represents the change in the epidermis from highly keratinized external skin to less keratinized internal skin.
upper jaw
The upper jaw (maxilla) holds the upper teeth, shapes the middle of the face, and supports the nose.
zygomatic bone
the bone that forms the prominent part of the cheek and the outer side of the eye socket.
covers sclera
The conjunctiva is a thin, clear membrane that covers the sclera, or white part of the eye
care for corneal abrasion
moisturizing ointments or eye drops that add a soothing layer over the cornea.
antibiotic eye drops to help prevent an eye infection.
eye drops that widen the pupil to help relieve pain.
special contact lenses (bandage contact lenses) to speed up healing and reduce pain.
most common facial fracture
nasal fracture
care for hyphema
Resting: Limiting activity or bed rest for several days to a week can help prevent further bleeding.
Protecting the eye: Wearing an eye shield or patch can help protect the eye.
Elevating the head: Keeping the head elevated, even while sleeping, can help the eye drain.
Using eye drops: Steroid eye drops can help reduce inflammation. Other eye drops, such as cycloplegics, can also be used.
Taking medication: Pain medication and antibiotics can be taken as directed. Tranexamic acid (Cyklokapron) can also be used to treat hyphema.
Seeing an ophthalmologist: Regular checkups with an ophthalmologist can help monitor healing and eye pressure.
number eye chambers
The inside of the eye is divided into three sections called chambers. Anterior chamber: The anterior chamber is the front part of the eye between the cornea and the iris. The iris controls the amount of light that enters the eye by opening and closing the pupil. The iris uses muscles to change the size of the pupil.
