Chiffon
Originally made of silk, it is always a filament yarn and can be piece dyed, yarn dyed, or printed. This is an extremely drapery fabric, with a grainy hand, used extensively for evening wear.
Georgette
can be a plain weave or a momie weave. Traditionally made with S & Z overtwisted yarns in both warp and weft, this fabric always has a more pebbly hand than chiffon, along with greater density.
Challis
the soft, flexible hand is one of the most important criteria for this fabric. It is a lightweight, plain weave fabric that is usually made from rayon. It is often printed with a dark background. The original fabric was made of fine wools for shawls.
Batiste
made with combed or mercerized cotton yarns and has a softer hand than voile.

Gingham

Madras
gets its name from the Madras region of India. is a plain-weave, lightweight, cottonlike fabric, yarn dyed, in a plaid pattern. The weight is critical. If the fabric is heavy it is not Madras. It used to be made of natural, yarn-dyed colors that bled into soft, muted colors. In the current market, it is usually a light-colored plaid pattern.
Chambray
is a plain-weave, lightweight, cottonlike fabric. It has a colored warp and a white weft. Also can be made into a oxford.
Oxford
gets its name from Oxford University. It is soft, resilient, and very appropriate for button-down casual shirts and lightweight summer shorts. Is often made as a half-basket, which offers superior resilience.
Oxford Chambray
is a basket weave in a chambray coloration of white weft and colored warp.
Taffeta
are made of filament yarns which creates a fine, horizontal rib. The rustling noise made by the rib is called the scroop, which causes these fabrics to have a crisp hand. They are lustrous and stiff and come from the silk fiber family.
Broadcloth
plain woven fabric with a very fine rib. Usually cotton, solid-colored, and used for men’s shirting.
Poplin
plain woven fabric with very fine crosswise ribs. Often made of cotton, solid-colored, used for shirts and sportswear. Heavier than broadcloth.
Faille
is a very soft, flexible, and drapery rib with a matte surface. A flatter rib, it is often made with a heavier weft than warp.
Ripstop
woven fabric usually made of nylon. Also made from cotton for sportswear. Coarse yarns at intervals prevent tears from spreading.
Denim
a twill woven fabric with more warp yarns on the face. Made with blue warp yarn, white filling yarn.
Chino
is a finer version of denim, made of a single-color cotton that has been combed, mercerized, and often preshrunk. was used to make pants called khakis.
Gabardine
a tightly woven twill fabric with a distinct diagonal wale. Often solid-colored and comes in various fiber contents. Used for pants, rain coats.
Herringbone
reversing twill, a traditional suiting fabric that can be yarn dyed, printed, or solid colored.
Houndstooth

Charmeuse
the fabric is named for its extremely high luster. it is the lightest weight of the crepe-back satins; it is the most drapery, extremely lustrous, and the lightest weight, but not often a crepe-back.
