Short
Usually uses animals to represent humans
Usually directly conveys a lesson
Parable
usually a bit longer then a fable
seemingly simple story but is intended to convey complexity (lesson)
Allegory
most every character and piece of setting is meant to represent an abstraction (hopes, thoughts ideas)
tends to be longer than a parable
LOTF can be read a an allegory
intended to teach a lesson
Allegorical Statement
Boys=Humanity Island=World Ocean=Vastness Unknown Green=Life Paradise Fire=Destruction Hell
Surrounded by a vast great ocean, the boys destroy the green of the island and create a fiery world.
Social Allegorical Statement
Ralph=Government
Jack=Power
Piggy=Technology
Simon-Humanism
Ralph tries to balance Jack, Piggy, and Simon. However Jack destroys Piggy and Simon and just barely destroys Ralph.
Moral Allegorical Statement
Ralph=Common Sense
Jack=Emotion
Piggy=Intellect
Simon=Soul
Ralph tries to balance Jack, Piggy, and Simon. However Ralph fails; and Jack destroys Piggy and Simon, leaving Ralph in an uninhabited world of chaos.
