A

Australia was introduced to a wide variety of different foods. Able to expand foods that were made, experiment with different flavours and establish an extensive selection of food restaurants

A

Gold Rush brought people from all over the world. This included Chinese migrants who brought staple vegetables to grow and introduced stir fry meals. Scandinavians settled in Victoria and started up the dairy industry with butter and cheese, they also brought their foreign love of crisp breads, cheesecake and smorgasbords. A large Greek community established in Victoria and brought with them their love of vine leaves, feta cheese and filo pastry. The first wave of Americans brought supplies for farming and cooking.

A

The Americans based during WWII brought Coca-Cola, hamburgers, tinned sweet corn, dried vegetables and some frozen foods. A significant number of Lebanese came and opened milk bars and the introduction of traditional Lebanese dishes such as tabouli, falafel and hummus increase.

In 2005-2006,24% of the Australian population was born overseas. Those born in the UK continued to be the largest group of overseas-born residents, followed by New Zealand. In the last ten years (to 2007) there was a 10% increase in the number of Sudanese migrated. By the beginning of 2008, the Australian Bureau of statistics expected that there would be on international migrant arrival for every 3 minutes and 5 seconds.

A

Occurs in developing countries, no surplus of food. What is grown tends to be shared among the local people. e.g. Columbia, Papa New Guinea, Zambia

A

A

Life threatening, when an individual or community are unable to supply any basic needs for a long period of time.

What is taxation?

A

The government fee that consumers pay. GST = Goods and Services Charge. GST is 10% but not charged on all foods. GST free food is unprocessed food including fresh fruit and vegetables, milk, meat and bread.

A

A total restriction or ban on the import of good(s) from a particular country for health reasons or countries political actions.

A

A cash payment by the government to local producer so they can reduce their selling price and compete with cheaper/better imported products.
