What is term bonds?
Face value is repaid on a single maturity date
What is serial bond?
Face value is repaid on several dates (installments)
What is debenture bond?
Unsecured by collateral
What is convertible bond?
- Lender can demand payment via company stock instead of money
- Interest rate is lower than non-convertible debt
What is callable bond?
- A borrower can pay off debt early
What are other terms for the stated rate?
- Face
- Coupon
- Nominal
What are other terms for the effective rate?
- Market
- Yield
What is the premium bond?
- Effective Rate < Stated Rate
- Amount received is greater than face, difference reduce interest expense
What is the discount bond?
- Effective Rate > Stated Rate
- Amount received is less than the face, difference increase interest expense
