OPTICAL STRUCTURES
CONTINUE ONTO NEXT CARD
Cornea
Film over the actual eye. It’s highly refractive
Pupil/ Iris
Pupil: black center
Iris: color of the eye. Changes size
Lens
Fine focus
Retina:
Fovea-
Optical disk/blind spot-
Retina:light sensitive surface in the back of the eye
Fovea:2% retinal surface. Most accurate and sharpest vision
Optic disk/blind spot: optic nerve fiber leaves the eyeball
Retina Rods and cones
Rods: dim light, night vision peripheral vision.
Cones: color, daytime vision,
Ganglion cells axons
Make up the optic nerve, help process vision. Ex: “this came from a rod, this came from a cone etc.)
Rods are blurry and have multiple connections
Cones: detailed and one to one
LOOK AT PICTURE ON NOTES FROM 2-26-14
Dark adaptation
Shift from cone vision to rod vision
