Eye functions Flashcards
Cornea
-Allow light to enter eye & partially focus light through bending/ refraction
-Protects front of eye
Rods
-Light sensitive
-No colour (white, black, grey)
-Doesn’t need to much light
-Low light vision
Retina
Contain photoreceptor cells that captures light and generates neural messages
Pupil
Opening that permits the passage of light from front to back of eye
Sclera
Layer that protects & maintains eyeball shape (white)
Iris
Regulates that amount of light that passes through to the back of eye
Cones
-red, green, blue (3)
-Day light vision
-Need more light
-Not light sensitive
Choroid
-Thin, dark layer that absorbs light energy
-Supples oxygen & nutrients to retina through blood vessels
Lens
Bends & focus the light ray onto the fovea centralis
Optic nerve
Sends electrochemical messages to brain (Occipital lobe)
Fovea centralis
Site of highest concentration of cones
