A
  • Position and alignment of the eyes
  • Eyebrows (hair and scaliness)
  • Conjunctiva (droop?)
  • Sclera
  • Cornea

  • Have patient look up as you pull eyelids down, and have them look down as you pull eyelids up

A

Snellen eye chart for just one eye, tests cranial nerve 2 (optic nerve)

A

  • Ask them to read the smallest line they are able to read

A

Light Reflex

  • Direct: eye with light exposure constricts
  • Consensual: other eye also constricts

Accomidation:

  • Have patient stare at your finger as you move it toward their face.
  • Eyes should cross and pupils should constrict

A

Used to identify weakness of extraocular movements (strabismus)

  • Have patient look at the tip of your nose while you cover one eye.
  • When you uncover the eye, you look for any lateral drift
