What is Entropion?
Rolling in of the eyelid margin
Hair chronically contacts the cornea
Can be congenital or acquired
What is Ectropion?
Everting or rolling out of the eyelid margin
Increased exposure of the conjunctiva
Inflammation and increased incidence can cause
Which breeds is entropion common in?
Shar Pei
Chow
Bulldog
Gold Retriever
Which breeds is ectropion common in?
St. Bernards
Spaniels
Hounds
What is Meibomain Glad Adenoma?
Most common eyelid tumor of dogs
Nearly always bengin
Most common in dogs 8yrs and older
What are some common Eyelid tumors?
Melanoma, Basal Cell Carcinoma Squamos cell, carinoma adenomas papillomas
What is the Prolapsed Gland of the 3rd Eyelid?
Also known as Cherry Eye
The gland protudes above the free border of the third eyelid and ususally becomes irritated and inflamed.
May be accompanied by mucoid discharge, epiphora and conjunctival inflammation
Common breeds that get Cherry Eyelid
Disease of young dogs Beagles cocker spaniels pekingese bulldogs
Foreign Bodies
Can present like simple conjunctiva but if the foreign material is not found the problem will likely persist
Often presented with conjunctiva, scleral inflammtion, epiphora, or mucoid to mucopurulent discharged
Conjunctivitis
Inflammation of the conjunctiva

can be infectious or allergic
Clinical Signs of Conjunctiva
Redness, Discharge, and Discomfort(blinking or winking)
Corneal Ulcers
A break or injury in teh intergrity of the cornea
can result from direct trauma, infectious agents or idopathic causes
