Eye and Hormones Flashcards
Accommodation
The automatic adjustment of the eye for seeing at different distances. Changed by the lens
Astigmatism
eye is unevenly curved. Cornea/lens is irregularly shaped
Blind Spot
place on the retina where the optic nerve is and there are no rods or cones.
Cone
Photo receptor that sees COLOR. located in the middle portion of the retina. bright light and sharp
Rods
see Black and White, peripheral vision. dim light
Cornea
transparent part of the coat of the eyeball that covers the iris and pupil and admits light to the interior.
depth perception
ability to judge the relative distances between objects in 3 dimensions.
With one eye, the field of vision appears to be 2D.
Hyperopia
Far sighted. Cannot see things at a close distance. Eye is too short for their lens.
Myopia
near sighted. can only see things closely. Eye is too long for their lens
What type of glasses do myopic people wear?
glasses that expand the image and make light bend slowly.
Function of hyperoptic glasses?
bend the light quickly
What part of the eye acts as a screen?
retina
3 types of cones
red, blue, green
what happens if any of the cones malfunction?
color blindness
Peripheral Vision
ability to see things outside direct line of vision
