Eye Flashcards
Covers info in Overview of the Eye notes
Bones of the Orbit
1) Frontal
2) Ethmoid
3) Maxilla
4) Lacrimal
5) Zygomatic
6) Palatine
7) Sphenoid
Where is the lacrimal fossa located
frontal bone of the orbit, located on the upper temporal side of the eye
Lateral wall of the orbit
zygomatic and greater wing of sphenoid bones
Medial wall of the orbit
orbital lamina of the ethmoid bone, lacrimal bone, frontal process of the maxilla
Medial walls are separated by the ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses
Roof of the orbit
frontal bone with lacrimal fossa -> lacrimal sac
Floor of the orbit
maxilla bone, contains infraorbital groove -> infraorbital nerve (branch of CN V, trigeminal)
Under the floor is the maxillary sinus
Apex of the orbit and openings
formed by the sphenoid bone
1) Optic nerve canal: contains optic nerve, ophthalmic artery
2) Superior orbital fissure: CN III, IV, VI, V1, superior ophthalmic vein
3) Inferior orbital fissure: branches of maxillary nerve and vessels
