Eye Flashcards
1
Q
Sclera
A
- White of eye
- Tough protective layer
2
Q
Cornea
A
- Transparent part of sclera
- Light enters through cornea
3
Q
Iris
A
- Coloured part of the eye behind the cornea
- Adjusting the iris helps to regulate or adjust light exposure
4
Q
Pupil
A
- Opening in iris - Black part of eye
- This is controlled with help of iris to control amount of light entering the eye
5
Q
Lens
A
- Lens behind iris and pupil
- Using the ciliary muscles, it changes its shape to focus light on the retina
- It becomes thinner to focus on distant objects and thicker to focus on the nearby objects.
6
Q
Retina
A
- Light-sensitive layer with numerous nerve cells
- It converts images formed by the lens into electrical impulses
- These electrical impulses are then transmitted to the brain through optic nerves
7
Q
Optic nerves - cones
A
- Optic nerve cells sensitive to bright light
- They help in detailed central and colour vision
8
Q
Optic nerves - rods
A
-Optic nerve cells more sensitive to dim lights
- They help in peripheral vision
