Extrinsic Muscles Flashcards
Hypaxial muscle
All muscles except intrinsic muscles
Origin of Trapezius Muscle
- 1/3 of superior nuchal line
- external occipital protuberance
-ligamentum nuchae - C7-T12
Insertion of the descending fibers of Trapezius
1/3 of clavicle
Insertion of the middle fibers of Trapezius
Spine and acromion process of scapula
Insertion of the ascending fibers of Trapezius
Base of spine of scapula
Innervation of Trapezius
Subtrapezial plexus:
- Motor: CNXI accessory nerve
- Sensory: C3-C4 ventral rami
Blood Supply for Trapezius
Descending fibers: occipital artery
Middle fibers: transverse cervical artery
Ascending fibers: dorsal scapula artery
Actions of Trapezius
- Elevate the shoulders: Shrugging
- depress scapula
- elevate scapula
- bilateral: extends head and neck
- unilateral: ear to shoulder (ipsilateral)
Origin of Latissimus Dorsi
- thoracolumbar fascia (spinous process of C7-L5 + posterior iliac crest)
- bone (iliac crest lateral to erector spinae + lower 3-4 ribs)
Insertion of Latissimus Dorsi
Floor of bicipital groove
Innervation of Latissimus Dorsi
Thoracodorsal nerve fibers (C6-C8 ventral rami)
Blood supply of Latissimus Dorsi
Thoracodorsal artery
Actions of Latissimus Dorsi
- extension of arm
- adduction of arm
- medial rotation of arm
Origin of Levator scapulae
T.P of C1-C4
Insertion of Levator scapulae
Medial border of scapula from superior angle to spine of scapula
Innervation of Levator Scapulae
C3-C4 ventral rami and dorsal scapular nerve C5
