Q

Suprahyoid Muscles (function and attachment)

A

Digastric (Anterior + Posterior), Stylohyoid, Mylohyoid, Geniohyoid

  • Support the hyoid bone from above
  • Known as laryngeal elevators
  • Move the hyoid upwards and forwards or backwards.
  • Therefore move the larynx in the same direction
  • Important in swallowing

Q

Mylohyoid Muscle (function and attachment)

A
  • A thin sheet of muscle which forms the floor of the mouth
  • Origin: Inside edges of the mandible
  • Insertion: Midline raphe (tendon running down center of floor of mouth) and hyoid bone
  • Function: Moves hyoid and larynx upwards and forwards
  • Innervation: CN V (Trigeminal)

A
  • Locatd superior to mylohyoid (closer to tongue)
  • Origin: Center of mandible
  • Insertion: Hyoid bone
  • Function: Moves hyoid and larynx upwards and forwards
  • Innervation: Cervical nerve 1
