In Antarctica what has been done to manage tourism.
A
The International Association of antarctic tour operators (IAATO) have been set up to manage tourism.
A ban on all ships carrying more than +500 passengers.
Penguins and seals have been protected by a 5m radius zone.

Why is there such demand for Extreme Tourism?
A
Young people, now with money want to do things other than the same holidays that everyone else does.
Simply the fun and excitement of such a dangerous endeavor.

What has been the impact of Extreme Tourism in Antarctica?
A
- Deforestation is caused by cutting down fuel for the tourists to get there
- Footpath/ice erosion is caused by large numbers of tourists exploring at once
- Litter and rubbish is being left on the ground
- People are getting too close to the wildlife and many are fleeing their habitats
- There is the threat of pollution, such as oil spills, from cruisers transporting people there
- Some tourists interfere with Scientists’ research by unknowlingly bringing in seeds or spores from other areas

What is the attraction of Extreme Tourism?

- To do something adventurous.
- To enjoy a holiday with an element of Risk involved
- To see scenery that can’t be seen anywhere else
- To see wildlife that can’t be seen anywhere else
