Extra Stuff Flashcards
What are the circuit diagram rules?
Wires are always drawn with straight lines
Wires don’t cross
We must use the correct symbols
What is current?
The flow of electrical charge
Can current be positive or negative?
Both
What is current measured in?
Amps
What is current measured with?
An ameter
For current to flow what do you need?
A source of energy and a closed circuit
What is the formula for voltage?
Voltage (V)= Current (I)*Resistance (R)
When current is in series what happens?
The current at any point will be the same (constant)
When you add another cell there is more current flowing so bulbs will be brighter
When the current is in parallel what happens?
If the bulbs have the same resistance then the current will equally split
However, wires have low but still some resistance so there will be a tiny bit more current flowing through the easier route
What is a unit of charge?
A Coulomb
What is the charge on an electron?
0.00000000000000000016 Coulombs
What are the circuit rules?
Current in series is the same everywhere in the circuit
Current in parallel splits between the branches of a circuit
Voltage in series is split between the components
Voltage in parallel is the same in each branch of the circuit
What are waves?
A transfer of energy
What is dispersion?
When the light refracts different colours slow down by different amounts which causes them to bend by different amounts - spreads out
Can convection happen in solids?
No - particles are in fixed positions so can’t flow
