Extra - Heat Transfer Flashcards
Why does heat transfer through objects, then stop transferring when the temperature in the surroundings is equal?
Heat is transferring through objects to make the surroundings a equal temperature to everything else. Heat transferring from an area is the same as cooler particles replacing warmer particles, thus is why heat rises and the floor is cooler than the ceiling. Coolness is the lack of heat.
Why does a metal block with the same dimensions as a plastic or non-metal block feel colder? But is it actually colder?
The metal block feels colder, because it is absorbing the heat from our hand into its self. The metal block is actually warmer than the non-metal block, because it is absorbing more heat than the non-metal block.
