- Extended funding (over $3 billion) for urban renewal, low-income housing and low-interest loans for housing
Manpower Development and Training Act:

- Sets up work training programmes for the unemployed
Economic Opportunity Act: (4)

- Creates the Office of Economic Opportunity and gives it around $900 million to fund projects
- Its set up training and work schemes for the unemployed young
- Basic adult education
- Over 1,000 Community Action Programs (CAPs)
Food Stamp Act: (2)
1964
- People could exchange stamps for food
- Expanded in 1974 to reach 15 million people
Medicare Act: (2)
1965
- Takes a small contribution from people’s social security payments and guarantees them free medical care in old age
- Also sets up Medicaid which provides free medical care to those on welfare
Child Nutrition Act:
1966
- Funds schools that cannot provide lunches
