Extra Flashcards
What statement do we use to remind us of our order of operations and what does each letter stand for?
GEMS, grouping, exponent, multiply divide, subtract add.
What is commutative property?
When an order doesn’t change the sum or product, for example 7+9 and 9+7 both equal 16 so those have commutative property. Same thing with multiplication.
What is associative property?
When grouping doesn’t change sum or product. For example, 8 x (2x3) and (8x2) x 3 both equal 48, so they have associative product
What is identity property?
When adding an zero or multiply by 1 does not change the value.
What is inverse properties?
When you add the opposite ( -2 x 2 = 0 )and the sum is 0. Or when you multiply reciprocals ( 1/3 x 3/1 = 1 ) and the product is 1.
What is a multiple? What are the multiples of 5?
A multiple is when you skip count by a number. 5 10 15 20 25 are the first five multiples of 5
What is a factor? What are the factors of 24?
Factors are numbers that can be multiplied to make a certain number. The products of 24 are 1,2,3,4,6,8
