Voice
The actor’s use of voice helps to depict the characters gender, age, status, mood etc. To do this, an actor will explore:
· Accent
· Pitch
· Volume
· Pace
· Projection
· Inflection
· Tone
Movement
Actors manipulate their body to create a character. They explore different types of movement to suit the character, performance style, mood etc. To do this, an actor will explore:
· Stature
· Walk
· Head Carriage
· Gait
· Rhythm
· Tempo
- Stylised / abstract expressive movement
- Choreographed movement
Gesture
Actors use gestures to assist their portrayal of characters. Gestures can be literal or symbolic. They will explore the application of:
· Vocal gesture –sigh, scream
· Full body gestures -kneeling down
· Part body gestures - a nod or a hand signal
· Spatial gesture - use of their body in the space and in relation to one or more characters or objects.
Facial expression
Actors use facial expressions to convey meaning that is clearly understood by the audience. An actor will explore the application of:
· Facial expressions to suit a particular theatrical style, mood, character.
· Dexterity of movement –Raising eyebrows, frowning
