A

Born in Groot-Zundert, Holland in 1853 and died in North France in 1890
Was a religious missionary first and then became a self taught painter
Used oils on canvas, still lifes, portraits and landscapes
Close relationship with brother Theo
Bad mental health problems and painting became brighter and wilder

J- Japanese influence seen with abrupt chopping on the edge of the painting with no regard for objects
